Northside Student Council Bagel and Fruit Breakfast
Members of Northside's student council 2016-2017, their Executive Board and outgoing 5th grade members, pictured with facilitators Mrs. Nizinski (R) and Mrs. Cosgrove (L), celebrated a successful year together with a bagel and fruit breakfast at which awards were presented.
Student council meetings were held monthly before school. There, decisions were made for food drives such as "Souper of Caring" when food was donated to the Levittown Food Pantry, and the PB & J Gang when peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were made and donated to the "Inn" for the homeless. The council voted to sponsor "Trees for Troops" where holiday trees were donated to military families and clothing drives such as "Socks for ALS" where $800 in sales were made by selling special socks (as modeled by third graders, (L) Mallory Gulotta and (R) Gabriela Milone) to help "Slam out ALS".
The council members came up with unique ideas for "Spirit Days" throughout the year in which students dressed according to specific themes such as Crazy Sock Day, Person in History Day, Wacky Wednesday and Favorite Book Character Day. The student council helped bring unity, spirit and a great deal of Northside pride.
